Explore this section to learn about the diversity of infections that can be spread through sexual contact, how to manage your own risk, and what to do if you end up with one of these infections.

*NOTE ON LANGUAGE: The language around sexually transmitted infections has changed a lot in recent years. Many people know this group of infections as STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) or as STIs (sexually transmitted infections). The more recent term STBBI (sexually transmitted and blood borne infections) draws attention to the infections that can be passed through different forms of sexual contact and/or through the blood of someone who has an STBBI coming into contact with someone else’s blood stream (something which can happen during certain sexual activities). Throughout this section we use the term STI to reflect the term most commonly recognized for this group of infections.
