An HIV test is used to determine if a person has HIV or not. The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested.

So why get tested regularly?

Getting an HIV test means you are doing everything you can to know your status; this is important for your health and the health of your sexual partners.

Early detection: Getting tested often means that if someone becomes HIV-positive, they’ll find out earlier. More than ever, science is telling us that early detection and treatment of HIV is crucial. Getting connected to treatment as soon as possible is likely to result in the best possible health outcomes.

Prevention: If a person doesn’t know they’re HIV-positive because they haven’t been tested, they’re much more likely to transmit HIV than an HIV-positive person who knows their status and is getting treatment or care.
